Scrap Our Stash Stash-A-Thon Birthday Challenge #1

Hi Everyone,
This month is Scrap Our Stash's birthday month and they are having a month long celebration.

Today today is the first day of challenges. Challenge #1 is: cake/layering. 3 or more layers of paper and/or embellishments.

And here is my entry:

Here is are some close ups:

To create this page I started by gesso-ing my base cardstock. While that was drying I created a heart shaped template from cardstock. I then decided where I wanted the hearts and drew around the template. I then set about sorting some leftovers from a previous project into larger pieces to use later and then the smaller bits I then cut them up into small strips to use. I then created the heart on the left by gluing the strips down in the heart shape, cutting where needed to keep the shape. I also used some Kaiser Craft Collectables mixed in for added interest. I then added a thin layer of gesso over the completed heart. I then worked with three complimentary shades of spray inks to color both hearts until I was happy with how it looked. I then added splatters from all three colors over the page. As this dried I created the cluster of layers under my photo and stuck them all together. I then backed the whole piece in some scrap cardstock to make it more stable, then added rows of foam tape under it to pop it up off the page. I then added it to the page along with my title and journalling.

See you all again soon.

Love
Michelle

    1. Hi Kate, the gesso is so forgiving, if your unhappy you can pretty much just wipe it off and start again, before it dries anyway. All I can say is give it a go, you won't regret it. Cheers Michelle
