Creativity Day Six

Creative JumpStart today was an interesting one. Nathalie Kalback was the instructor today and she we using foam stamps. She created these amazing effects by layering colored paint with masks/stencils/templates.

I don't own any foams stamps and I really wanted to create this effect. So I spent a bit of time on the Internet, especially YouTube learning how to create my own rubber stamps with products I had at home. In the end I created a tree stamp with 'Fun Foam' and clear plastic left over form packaging.

Creativity Day Five

Today's creativeness once again inspired by Creative JumpStart 2013, today's Guest was Sharon Laakkonen and her video was on creating with manila tags. There was not a lot in her video that was new to me, but it was still interesting to watch her process of creating. At the end of her video she showed a cool product with class beads in it and she used it to create a really cool texture and effect on her tag.

Now I'm having some time at home and so I had to improvise with this. I experimented with what I had available to me and although what I ended up with is quite chunky compared with what she used I am quite happy with the result. I used the smaller dead beads I had here and gel medium. I am still waiting for them to dry properly so I can play with them, so maybe tomorrow.

Creativity Day Four

I tried to post this Friday but it did not go through. So here it is today (Sunday). I did not post yesterday as I went to bed super early with a migraine.

Friday the 4th's creativity once again comes from Creative Jump Start, with Heidi Swapp. I just love Heidi and today she showed us how to create and use homemade masks, and how to layer up with other masks, stencils and stamps to create fabulous results.

I started by creating a Christmas ornament mask from scrap paper and taped this down over my tag. Then using Crafter Workshop Mini Pointy Circles and Distress Ink Spiced Marmalade I added the ink in a circular fashion until I was happy with the color. I then shifted the stencil to the left slightly and sprayed with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Key Lime Pie and after removing the stencil dried with my heat gun. I then gently rubbed Distress Ink Fired Brick in a circular fashion all over the exposed area of the mask. I then stamped Stamp-It Handwriting over the top with Distress Ink Walnut Stain.

I then removed the mask and some of the tag surface was accidentally pulled away with the masking tape (as my husband used the last of my low tac tape), so instead of getting upset I decided to go with the flow as Julie Fel Fan Balzer would say and I did some more pulling away of the top layer of the tag with some extra masking tape I had left over. Then I took my Distress Ink Walnut Stain and inked around the outside edge of the tag and worked my way in to get an aged look. I then used Distress Stain Black Soot to slightly darken the outside edges of the tag.

I decided at this point that it needed to be softened so I sprayed with water 2 or 3 times and dried in between with my heat gun. Next I decided to crumple the tag up to age it some more, and then I rubbed the Distress Ink Walnut Stain pad over the creases to highlight them. I then sprayed with water again to soften and dried with my heat gun.

Looking at the tag I decided that it needed a bit of shine, so I pulled out my VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad and rubbed it over the creases and then put American Craft Brand Zing Copper Metallic Finish Embossing Power on and heated it with my heat gun. As a final touch I decided to stamp a sentiment from Kaiser Craft's Christmas Sentiments in Stazon Black ink.

I hope you have enjoyed.

Creativity Day Three

Today's creativeness once again comes from Creative Jump Start 2013. Today's Jump Starter was Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. I have been following Julie for a while now, and I love love love what she does, but have never got the courage up to try.

Well today was the day, I played first with some small tags, before creating on a larger tag. I am so super happy with the result and will be doing this again tomorrow :-).

I used Julie's Punchinella 12 x 12 Stencil from The Crafter Workshop, staring with the hexagon section and spraying with Dylusions Melted Chocolate (mixed 50/50 with water), then I used Jo Sonja's Matte Fluid Acrylic in Titanium White and Brilliant Magenta through the circle section of the stencil. Next I used Distress Ink Walnut Stain through the star section of the stencil down the left hand side.

I then used the Radiant Lettering Guide Stencil 3/4", a stencil brush and Reeves Acrylic Paint in Gold to stencil 2013 on the bottom right and random letters in the top right. I then used the stencil brush to go around the outside edge.

I then decided it needed something more, something darker that would stand out so I used Kaiser Craft's Tree Stencil and Distress Ink Soot Black and stenciled half a tree in the middle on the right.

After that I spattered watered down left over white and magenta paint, then sprayed water to soften it all slightly, and then dried with my heat gun.

Finally I hand wrote "To the journey ahead and drew around 2013.

I forgot to photograph a couple of steps, and at the moment some of the pictures are upside down, when I next get access through my computer to the Internet I'll fix all that up.

I hope you have enjoyed ...

Creativity Day Two

Today's creative inspiration comes from Creative JumpStart 2013. This is a month long inspiration fest. Famous people from the scrapbooking, mixed media and creative world come together to share some of their creative processes with everyone. I was able to access last years after it had finished and there was no way I was going to miss out this year. It is run by a wonderful lady called Nathalie Kalbach through her Studio *n.

As this is coming from overseas each day is received here in Australia in the afternoon, so their 1st JumpStart will be my January 2nd, post and so forth. When JumpStart is finished it will be available to everyone on her website: http://nathaliesstudio.com/

So today is Day One and is bought to us by Nathalie herself. It is such a simple idea it made me want to smack myself in the forehead and go doh. She showed us how to create our own tape using double-sided tape and embossing powders. I could only find one embossing power here at the moment, so I pulled it out and created some simple tape and created a tag with it. I am very happy with the result.

I show the process with a series of photos but basically you lay down the double sided tape on your non stick mat, take sections of the tape off and rub embossing powered into the exposed tape. Continue the process until all the tape is covered. You then heat the embossing powder as normal. The tape is now ready for you to use as you choose.

Creativity Day One

Today I pulled out a class kit, by a lovely lady Jo Carey, that I have had for a while now and decided to complete it for my creativity for today.

I decided to take it a little easier today after the late night last night.

This kit came as a 12 x 12 page it and I have had to adjust it for my 8 1/2 x 11 pages, but I am happy with the results.

My Creative Resolution for 2013

My Creative Resolution for 2013, is to be creative every day. This blog is where I hope show what I have done creatively for the day. Hopefully, every day will not be the same, but the idea is that I do something creative everyday. I may scrapbook, do an off the page project, a sewing project, etc.

Welcome 2013

Welcome to 2013. Here's to a new year with new beginnings and new adventures. This year my focus will be on family, being creative, improving my health and studying.

I am keeping it brief this morning as it is now officially way past my bedtime and there is crafting to be done later today.

Cheers and Love to Everyone
